For the Mendoza Family portrait session, we went to Carbon Canyon Regional Park. It was a beautiful day and the weather was nice. Older kids, preteen and teenage, can sometimes be difficult to get the expressions you want mainly because kids that age don't really want to hug mom and dad or hold hands, however, this family did great and I've learned some tricks over the years to get the expressions I'm looking for without pushing the kids too far into ‘mushy’ photos.
When trying to get the hugging poses, I usually ask the kids to give their parents a big hug and squeeze. Then I say ‘not too hard’ and I'll get a smile or laughter.
The little garden area at the park has so many different flowers and plants. It is so much fun finding different places that are in bloom for each shot which makes each session unique.
We ended our session at the pond which was just perfect.
