How You Can Have Worry-free Family Portraits

Writer's picture: Bianca Jo Bianca Jo

Having your family portraits taken can be a bit overwhelming. You have a vision of what you want, you have images you've saved or maybe you are worried about how everyone will feel about the session. Will they dred it and it shows up in their faces in the images? Or will they have a meltdown in the middle of the session?

I get it, expectations have a lot to do with how we feel about the results we get and can cause a lot of angst, which will set the mood for the session. I want you to know you don't have to worry about your family enjoying their time with me during your family portrait session.

I am sharing three reasons why you can have worry-free family portraits and be confident that together we will capture your family and enjoy an hour while I capture the joy you share.

A family of seven sits on a stone bench in a park. Parents hold two smiling babies. Lush greenery and trees form the backdrop.

I help you plan out your session based on your needs.

Before we book your family portrait session, I schedule a call so we can talk about your needs. If we don't have time for a call, I will send a questionnaire that will include the important questions I'd ask over the phone.

What kind of questions do I need?

I ask about the ages, if any considerations or difficulties may come up, and how I can help. What do you want to remember about this stage, and what special relationships or connections do you want captured?

Style guide and help with preparations

This part is mainly for the moms. I send a style guide to all my clients and talk with moms a lot. I tell all my ladies, when deciding on outfits, to choose the outfit for themselves that makes them feel the best and good about themselves. The style guide provides color schemes and shopping ideas. But the part I have the most feedback on is that I am perfectly okay with them texting me their outfit options, and I help them choose what looks best together.

Always remember, though, to let your personality out as well. With these in mind, you'll have the best outfits for your session.

Activities to create space for connection

After all the above has been discussed, I take all that information and create a plan for our session that will incorporate activities to bring out the beautiful connections I know I can capture. This can include letting the high-energy children run around parents, hug or kiss attacks, walking hand in hand together, or following the leader.

When I give you something to do your mind isn't focused on picture perfect but on the connection with your family and that will bring out the smiles and laughter you are looking for in your family portraits.

This Leads To Worry-Free Family Portraits

You won't have to worry about your family enjoying the portraits because I have already asked about your desire for the session and your family needs, we tackled outfits that reflect you as a family and individually and used that information to create activities that show great connections between everyone, that you can look forward to our session together.

If this sounds like something you'd like to experience with your family book a phone consultation with me where we can start planning your session.
