You want to have a family portrait session, but there are several factors that have held you back from making that commitment. Perhaps you’ve had a less-than-ideal experience in the past, or maybe you’ve never had the opportunity to capture those precious moments with your children in a professional setting. It’s completely normal to feel hesitant or anxious about scheduling a family portrait session, especially if previous experiences have left you feeling uncertain.
However, you have come to the right place, and I genuinely hope to alleviate those concerns and transform any apprehension into excitement. Family portraits are not just pictures; they are timeless treasures that encapsulate the love, joy, and connection shared among family members. They serve as a beautiful reminder of the moments you’ve spent together, preserving them for years to come.
5 Things You Don't Have to Worry About During a Family Portrait Session with Me

1- Posing Yourself
When it comes to capturing the perfect moment during a family photography session, one of the most critical aspects is how you position yourself and your body language. We certainly want to avoid a situation reminiscent of a Ricky Bobby moment, where you find yourself awkwardly exclaiming, "I don't know what to do with my hands." This scenario can result in stiff, unnatural poses that detract from the overall aesthetic of the photograph. To prevent this, I will guide you through a carefully crafted scenario designed to elicit natural interactions and genuine expressions.

2- Bad Weather
Unfortunately, I have no control over what the weather will do, and as much as I would love to guarantee perfect conditions for our session, nature has its own plans that can be unpredictable. However, I will make it a priority to keep a close watch on the weather forecast as we approach our scheduled time. This means I will be checking reliable weather sources regularly to ensure that I have the most current and accurate information regarding any potential changes in the weather conditions.
If the weather appears to be iffy or uncertain, I will proactively suggest an alternate date for our session to ensure that we can proceed under the best possible circumstances. It is important to me that we have an enjoyable and productive experience, and sometimes that means being flexible with our plans. If we do need to reschedule, I will make sure to communicate this to you as soon as possible, ideally at least 4 hours before our original meeting time. This way, you will have ample opportunity to adjust your own plans accordingly. Our goal is to have a successful session, and I appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these potential weather-related challenges together.

3- Your Kids Misbehaving
I have seen it all, and I am here to tell you it will happen at some point during the session. But I am here to tell you it's ok, I plan and prepare for it. When we first chat, I ask about the ages of the kids and if there is anything I need to know that will help me understand how to engage with them. I will have some tricks to help and time included in the session to play and let pent-up energy out. Some kiddos may need a minute to collect themselves, and if one parent wants to take them aside to comfort them, that is perfectly ok, and I can capture those sweet moments or focus on the other members of the family. It is OK! I will walk you through options in the moment that will help, and we will make beautiful and fun memories together!

4- Overthinking What To Wear
I understand the common concern about balancing comfort and style for family portraits. It's important to feel good in your outfits, as this reflects in your expressions and demeanor. I aim to make the experience enjoyable, allowing you to have fun and be yourselves without worrying about discomfort.
To assist you, I provide a comprehensive style guide with options tailored to different family dynamics and styles. The guide includes suggestions on color palettes, patterns, and textures that photograph well, along with tips on coordinating outfits without being overly matchy-matchy.
I encourage a collaborative approach, inviting clients to share outfit ideas. I review these ideas to ensure each outfit complements the others while reflecting individual personalities. My goal is to make the process seamless and enjoyable, selecting outfits that align with your family’s style and ensure comfort.
Ultimately, I aim to capture your family's essence authentically, creating beautiful memories while looking great and feeling relaxed.

5- Feeling Awkward
Feeling awkward in front of the camera can be beneficial, leading to genuine expressions and candid moments. This may sound weird to say, but I know from experience. During a recent branding session, I initially felt self-conscious, but my photographer's warm approach helped me relax. This resulted in spontaneous laughter and some of the best shots. My aim is to provide a similar experience for you, creating a supportive atmosphere where you can express yourself. Together, we'll turn discomfort into joy, capturing images that reflect your family's connection and individuality.
